A few weeks ago, I stood on the shores of Goree Island in Senegal, deeply moved by the weight of history and the resilience of the human spirit. The experience cracked me open in ways I didn’t fully realize at the time. Then, life kept moving—back to Bali, getting sick, trying to catch up on work, then moving houses. I found myself caught in a cycle of exhaustion, overwhelm, and frustration.
It was subtle at first—the thoughts of being behind, the conversations about how drained I felt, the focus on everything I wasn’t getting done. But soon, I noticed something: the more I focused on being tired, the worse I felt. The more I talked about feeling behind, the heavier everything became.
And then, this morning, I had a realization that hit me like a wake-up call: I am always creating, whether I am conscious of it or not.
Every thought I think, every word I speak, every feeling I entertain is shaping my experience of living. When I tell myself I’m exhausted and overwhelmed, I create more exhaustion and overwhelm. When I focus on how much energy I have, I create more vitality.
So I made a decision: I only speak about what I want to create.
I declared:
✨ I am alive, vital, energized, and energizing.
✨ I always have an abundance of energy for everything I need and want.
And just like that, something shifted. My body felt lighter. My mind felt clearer.
The Power of Stopping
When we find ourselves spiraling into a disempowered state—feeling bad, overwhelmed, or stuck in negative thoughts—the first and most important thing we can do is stop.
Why? Because our nervous system is running the show. When we are stressed, anxious, or emotionally drained, we operate from survival mode. Our brain scans for threats, our energy contracts, and our ability to think creatively and take inspired action diminishes.
Stopping—literally pausing everything—allows us to reset.
Three Actions to Shift Your Focus
Once you’ve stopped and calmed your nervous system, here are three things you can do to realign with what you actually want to create:
Choose a New Declaration: Instead of affirming what you don’t want (“I’m exhausted, I’m behind”), declare what you are creating:
I am energized and abundant.
I move through life with ease and flow.
Everything is always working out for me.
Move Your Body: Physical movement shifts energy. Whether it’s stretching, dancing, taking a walk, or just shaking out your hands, movement signals to your body that it’s safe and helps break the cycle of stuck energy.
Engage with Gratitude: Shift your focus from what’s wrong to what’s working. List three things you are grateful for right now. Gratitude is the fastest way to expand your energy and call in more of what you want.
You Are Always Creating
Whether we realize it or not, we are always creating our experience of life. The question is: Are you creating consciously or unconsciously?
Today, I choose to create joy, ease, and energy. What about you?
